This is a picture of a castle. The castle represents the Middle Ages because loyalty in the Middle Ages often lived in castles.
Here is one of my favorite Middle Ages quotes: "No student of history can fail to see the moral interest of the Middle Ages, any more than an artist can fail to see their aesthetic interest." - Goldwin Smith.
Here are some events that happened in the Middle Ages:
800- Charlemagne is crowned holy roman emperor.
1096- The first crusade starts.
1271- Marco Polo leaves on his journey to explore Asia.
1337- The Hundred Years War starts between France and England.
1482- Leonardo Da Vinci paints "The Last Supper"

Before the Middle Ages, we wrote down what we thought the answer to each question was that coincided with the picture above the question before we learned anything about the Middle Ages.
Here are my answers. My before unit answers are in white and my post unit answers are in Purple.
Image 1- I think the Middle Ages started in western Europe because most of the arrows are going east.
One reason why the Middle Ages started in western Europe because the western empire of Rome collapsed, so there was land with nobody else in it. Another reason is that there was not many invaders in the area. Also, the tribe that invaded the western roman empire started the Middle Ages. After it started in the west, it expanded into the east.
Image 2- The majority of the people do not have power and a select few have power.
One difference between Feudalism then and now is that feudalism back then was centered around land and ours is centered around occupations. One similarity of these two systems is that they have the same number of ranks and percentages for each rank. Also, the percentages are based on population. Another difference is that there are different occupations for each rank.
Image 3- The relationship between the people in the feudal system is that everything goes back to the King.
There were many relationships involved in feudalism. One relationship of feudalism is between the lord and the vassal. The lord gives the vassal land for protection. Another relationship of feudalism is between the serf and the lord. The lord gives the serf land for work to do around the manor. The serfs have give loyalty to their lords because they are giving them a place to stay on the manor. As you can see, the lord gives fiefs, or pieces of land, to the vassals and serfs in exchange for something.

This document is called the Code of Chivalry. It is a set of rules that the knights had to follow during knighthood. Some of the categories on the document are Fair Play, Nobility, Valor, Honor, Courtesy, and Loyalty. If one of the knights broke one of these rules, they would not be a knight anymore.
Image 6- I think this picture is representing a war that happened.
The event that this image showed us is the Black Plague. The plague starts when a flea bites a rat. Then, the flea goes and bites a human and injects the plague into them. When the plague goes into your body, there would be bumps on your skin. There were some crazy remedies in the Middle Ages to cure this. Some of these remedies were having birds fly around you, carrying spices in your pockets, and starting a fire.

This is a image of how many outbreaks of the plague were in different places. At the time a the plague outbreak, I would like to be in Warsaw because there were not alot of outbreaks in that area. In the Middle Ages, there would be trash in the streets. The reason why that the plague spread quickly is the the trash attracted the fleas which were carrying the plague.

One conclusion I can make from the image is that there were many wars in the Middle Ages that started back to back from another war. Another conclusion is that there were many Kings that ruled over several wars that were going on in the Middle Ages. Also, the kings that ruled were decendants of one king that ruled before them. The timeline also tells me that the Kings do not rule for a long period of time.

In the Middle Ages, the people imported and exported goods from country to country, They imported spices and they exported wheat and grains from their farm. This is because they did not have spices in Europe and they had many lands to farm on.

This is an image of a very popular type of entertainment in the Middle Ages, jousting. In jousting, you ride horses and using a sword like object, you try to knock the other person off their horse. One thing that protects the castle is the moat. This is so invaders do not get into the castle. Another thing is the drawbridge. This is so you can put the drawbridge sown for wanted guest and up for the unwanted ones. Also, the walls protect the castle. This is becasue the invaders cannot just walk in through the castle.

This is an image of Charlemagne. He was the King of the Franks for the years 768-814. One interesting fact about Charlemagne is that Pope Leo III crowned him as the holy roman emperor on Christmas Day in the year 800. Charlemagne was born on April 2, 742. Also, Charlemagne died of a disease in the year 814.
Charlemagne had a positive impact on the Middle Ages. One reason is that he kept everything in order in the kingdom, so things did not resort to complete chaos. Another reason is that Charlemagne conquered more land for the kingdom to expand the empire, so that means that he was a good military officer. Also, Charlemagne was a fair king because the kingdom did not go to complete chaos until after he died. For those reasons, I think Charlemagne had a good impact on the Middle Ages.
